Police seize drugs and concealed weapons following bike stop
Lethbridge Police have charged a 34-year-old male with drug and weapons offences after seizing hundreds of doses of fentanyl, methamphetamine and numerous concealed weapons following a traffic stop for bicycle equipment violations.
On September 18, around 7 p.m., police observed a group of people in the downtown core and noted a male subject on a bicycle which did not have brakes or a bell/horn visible. Police approached the subject and he immediately fled on his bicycle, ignoring police direction to stop. Police located the male in a parking long along the 200 block of Scenic Drive South. He initially resisted arrest but was taken into custody without further incident. During a search of the male incidental to arrest, police located 200 street doses of methamphetamine, 170 doses of fentanyl, cash proceeds of crime, drug paraphernalia including multiple scales and packaging, along with two collapsible batons, a hatchet and three knives.
Joshua Christian James Myers, 34, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of the proceeds of crime, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.
Myers was also issued provincial violation tickets for riding a bicycle without brakes, riding a bicycle without a horn or bell, riding a bicycle without at least one red reflector mounted on the rear and failing to operate a bicycle in a prescribed manner.
Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Myers was released from custody with numerous conditions and is scheduled to appear in court October 18.
