Police charge male with child sexual assault and believe there may be additional victims

Lethbridge Police have charged a 66-year-old male in connection with the sexual assault of a child at a public swimming pool.

On February 10, police responded to a report that an 11-year-old boy had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male at Stan Siwik Pool along the 1900 block of 15 Avenue North. Investigation determined the male approached the child in the men’s changing room and sexually assaulted him. Following further investigation a male subject was identified and arrested without incident on February 11.

Quan Phuoc Tran, 66, of Lethbridge, is charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

He was released from custody with conditions prohibiting him from attending Stan Siwik Pool and any other public park, swimming area, daycare, school ground, playground or community centre where persons under 18 may be present. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the victim and any other child under 18 except for immediate family members.

Tran is scheduled to appear in court March 25.

Following further investigation, police believe there may be additional victims. As part of an ongoing investigation police are releasing a photo of Tran in an effort to encourage unidentified victims to come forward. Anyone who has had a similar encounter with Tran is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 and reference file 25002388.
