Police charge male with arson in connection with northside fire

Lethbridge Police have charged a 26-year-old male with arson in connection with a fire that damaged a northside garage and home last week.

On August 9, just after 11 p.m., police and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a residential structure fire along the 1600 block of 3 Avenue North. Upon arrival, the rear garage of the residence was found to be fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the home causing extensive damage estimated by the fire department at approximately $500,000.

Police interviewed multiple witnesses who provided information that the fire was intentional and a suspect was subsequently identified. The subject was located by police on August 13 and arrested without incident. 

Ryan Lloyd Gerard, 26, of Lethbridge, is charged with arson to property. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Gerard was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, August 16, 2024.
