No charges laid in fatal motorcycle collision
The investigation into a fatal motorcycle collision that claimed the life of a 40-year-old male has been concluded without charges.
On October 24 just after 7 p.m., police and EMS responded to a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and SUV along the 1200 block of 3 Avenue South. The male operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigation determined the motorcycle was travelling westbound on 3 Avenue South at more than double the posted speed limit when it struck an SUV attempting to turn eastbound onto 3 Avenue from 12 A Street South. As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old driver of the SUV was injured. Her vehicle proceeded across the eastbound lanes, striking a parked truck and continued southbound on 13 Street before she was able to pull over in the 900 block. She was subsequently transported to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The excessive speed was a significant factor in the crash.
Police are reminding all motorists to obey the rules of the road, pay attention and drive safely and defensively.
So far this year, there have been five fatal collisions – two motorcycle operators, one pedestrian and two vehicle occupants (one driver and one passenger). With more snow in the forecast, the need for extra caution and vigilance while driving on wintery roads is critical.
