Careless driving charges laid in connection with pedestrian collision that injured three children

Lethbridge Police have charged a 60-year-old woman with careless driving in connection with a pedestrian collision that resulted in three children sustaining serious injuries.

On January 20, just after 7:30 a.m., police responded to a report that three children, ages 14, 7 and 5, were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 13 Avenue and 23 Street North. EMS transported the children to Chinook Regional Hospital and all three were subsequently transported to Calgary for further treatment.

Investigation determined the children were crossing in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on 23 Street North. The driver stopped and remained on scene.

Janice Elizabeth Madsen, of Lethbridge, is charged with three count each of careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Madsen is scheduled to appear in court on the careless driving charges March 25.

The children are no longer in hospital and continue their recovery.
