5th Annual Charity Checkstop
The Lethbridge Police Service extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who braved the chilly weather to support the 5th Annual Charity Checkstop this past Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Due to the incredible generosity of our community, a record-breaking 2981 unwrapped gifts were collected - the highest number ever received during the Charity Checkstop campaign! A special thank you to the Lethbridge Skating Club for their significant contribution to this amazing total.
In addition to these gifts, volunteers gathered 534 pounds of non-perishable food and $470 in donations. All of these items have been be given to Christmas Hope, an organization that coordinates between six local charities to ensure that everyone receives what they need during the holidays.
On behalf of the LPS and the families supported by Christmas Hope, thank you for making this holiday season brighter for all.
Previously Released - November 25, 2024
The Lethbridge Police Service is once again partnering with a number of community agencies to make Christmas a little brighter for those less fortunate.
The 5th Annual Charity Checkstop will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from noon to 4 p.m. Lethbridge Police officers and staff will be volunteering onsite at the Park Place Mall’s west parking lot (by the old Sears), collecting new unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items and cash donations in support of local Christmas Hope initiatives.
Christmas Hope coordinates donations for the Interfaith Food Bank, the Lethbridge Food Bank, Lethbridge Family Services (Angel Tree), MyCityCare (Shop of Wonders), The Salvation Army (Toys for Tots), and Volunteer Lethbridge. Their goal is to limit any duplication of services so that everyone in the community receives what they need during the holidays.
“We believe that illuminating Christmas spirit is more important than ever for our children and families in Lethbridge who need assistance,” says Michelle Gallucci, Director of Advancement & Communications with Lethbridge Family Services and a member of Christmas Hope. “This is our time to shine and we can do that with Charity Checkstop. This is an exciting shared community experience of kindness.”
“Lethbridge is a really generous community,” notes Acting Sgt. Don Realini. “We saw a significant increase in donations last year at this new location and we’re optimistic that we’ll have an even better turn out this year by hosting the event after Black Friday – when shoppers can, hopefully, find some great deals for both themselves and our local families in need.”
The Lethbridge Police Service’s 5th Annual Charity Checkstop has also been graciously supported by the following community-oriented sponsors: the Lethbridge Police Association, Murray Chevrolet Cadillac and the Park Place Mall.
Join us on Saturday November 30, 2024 to help make the holidays shine for everyone.
