The Lethbridge Police Pipe Band was formed on January 20, 2025 when the Lethbridge Legion Pipe Band and the Bridge City Highlanders Pipes and Drums Band united.
Pipe Band
The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) Pipe Band serves as a ceremonial unit and a community outreach element of the Lethbridge Police Service.
Comprised of both police and civilian volunteer members, the LPS Pipe Band promotes the traditions of Scottish pipe band music through performances and instruction and represents the LPS at a variety of community events, such as:
- Lethbridge Police Service Ceremonies and Occasions: Enhancing the significance of police service ceremonies
- Remembrance Day Ceremonies: Honoring veterans and those who have served
- Public and Community Events: Boosting the visibility and reputation of the LPS
- Community Parades: Strengthening the connection between the LPS and the community.
The development of the Lethbridge Police Pipe Band reflects the Service's commitment to community engagement and cultural preservation.
About the Band
Background of the Founding Bands
The Lethbridge Legion Pipe Band was established in 1952 as the Army, Navy, Airforce Pipe Band, and has served as a community cornerstone. Over the years, it has participated in numerous parades and ceremonies throughout southern Alberta, upholding the traditions of Scottish music and culture.
The Bridge City Highlanders Pipes and Drums Band was formed in 2019 and has also significantly contributed to Lethbridge's musical landscape. Known for its dedication to musical excellence and community involvement, the band performs at various events across Southern Alberta and maintains an active teaching program to develop new pipers and drummers.
The new Band plans to adopt the Prince Charles Edward Stuart tartan in the near future and looks forward to representing the Lethbridge Police Service with pride.
The LPS Pipe Band routinely meets on Wednesdays between 7:00 and 9:00 pm at the Civic Centre (905 6 Ave S, Lethbridge).
The LPS Pipe Band generally holds individual/group lessons on Thursdays between 7:00 and 9:00 pm at the Civic Centre (905 6 Ave S, Lethbridge).
